Longford photographer and author Shelley Corcoran recently launched her book The Most Irish Person, illustrated by Angelika Sowul and published by Currach Books. This book is a vivid portrayal about the diversity in Ireland. For example, 0,4 % of Ireland has a Chinese ethnicity. That’s 19.447 residents.

While Anna and lucy were traveling around Ireland to see who’s the most Irish person, they join the festivities with Lei, who lives in Galway. Even though Chinese children loves celebrating St Patrick’s day with their friends, they also follow there holidays from China. On February 10th they celebrate Chinese new year. This year is the year of the dragon.

The Book The Most Irish Person is all about even though you’re not born in Ireland, you’re still Irish. On Chinese new year, Dublin will be celebrating this tradition! Dublin City Council said: The Lunar New Year is a very special celebration for Dublin. For those Dubliners whose tradition celebrates this Asian Festival it brings memories of home and family. Dublin City Council is delighted to support this New Year of the Dragon. As you can see, even the Irish people think you’re still very Irish, even though you celebrate the holidays from your own country.

On Saturday, February 10th  at 11 AM Shelley Corcoran is giving a reading session about her book The Most Irish Person for children in Galway. The reading session will take place in the oldest bookshop of Ireland, Charlie Byrne’s bookshop. If you’re in town with your little ones, make sure you step by!
